Casual Kitchen Assistant
 

Salary: £12.25 per hour (£12.71 per hour from 1st April 2026)
Hours: Bank (flexible, as and when required)
Location: The Prince of Wales Hospice

We are looking for flexible and enthusiastic Kitchen Assistants to join our catering team on a casual basis. This role will support the delivery of high-quality, freshly prepared food for patients, visitors, staff and events and help to maintain the high standards expected within a Hospice environment.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a professional kitchen but requires flexibility in their working pattern.

About the Role

Working alongside our passionate and hardworking Catering team, you will contribute to the smooth and effective running of the kitchen. Duties will include:

Assisting with basic food preparation under the guidance of the Head Chef/Sous Chef.

Supporting with plating and presentation during busy service periods, following instructions and set standards.

Ensuring all food hygiene and health and safety standards are consistently met.

Ensuring all kitchen areas, utensils and equipment are cleaned and maintained to a high standard.

Carrying out pot wash and general cleaning duties as required.

Supporting the wider catering team with ad hoc tasks to ensure smooth kitchen operations.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will:

Have good organisational skills and attention to detail

Be committed to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and food quality

Be able to work flexibly and adapt to changing demands

Be a team player with a positive, can-do attitude

Have Basic food hygiene knowledge (Level 2 Food Safety desirable)

Have experience working in a similar professional kitchen environment (desirable)

This bank role offers flexibility and hours to suit your availability.

Successful candidates will be added to our ‘bank’ list of workers.  As such you will not be an employee of the Hospice but from time to time we may call upon you to work for us to provide cover. Inclusion on our ‘bank’ list does not affect your right to work elsewhere and to be listed on other casual work lists without hindrance. Any offer of work is made purely at the discretion of the Hospice, and the Hospice is under no obligation to offer further work in the future.
